Client feedback: Nicola's story

Nicola is a senior publishing professional for an industry-leading organisation

What was your reason for seeking a coach?

I had left the company where I worked for almost 20 years for another job which hadn’t worked out as I had hoped. After spending a year freelancing I decided I needed some help getting back into the industry. I had tried a career coach before who I found less than helpful and knew I needed to rethink. I found Blooms Coaching during a web search and thought the site looked very professional so I signed up for a free consultation. Sian and I discussed my situation after which she sent me a proposal via email.

What format did the coaching take?

We had 1:1 calls on Zoom which worked very well. We also used Google docs so that we could work on my CV and covering letters together. I had 12 sessions in total.

Did you achieve your original objectives?

Absolutely and more! Sian not only found the ad for the position I applied for, she guided me through the tailoring of my CV, the writing of a cover letter and uploading of my application. I was invited to an interview so Sian proposed a plan of attack to get me through it involving a mock interview, detailed feedback, coaching as well as a good dose of moral support.  I got the job!

Is there anything unique about Blooms Coaching that you think is worth highlighting?

Sian is very perceptive and seems to understand your weaknesses (one of mine being procrastination!). She kept me focused and didn’t allow me to dodge or wriggle out of the tasks in hand!

Was there anything you found particularly good or helpful?

You don’t only pay for the contact time. Sian works behind the scenes in order to tailor the sessions to your specific needs. I felt very supported and really appreciated ad hoc emails/texts during and after the recruitment process.

I would recommend Sian and Blooms Coaching without hesitation - she has helped me turn my life around and I intend to ask Sian to work with me again on the next steps in my career.

Client feedback: Val's story

Val is a Scientist who bought a four-session Job Search package, followed by one additional session.

What was your reason for seeking out a coach?

I wanted support with career transition from public to the private sector

What format did the coaching take? How effective did you find this?

I initially purchased the Job Search package, as was an affordable price for me and covered all aspects needed. Coaching was on Zoom with Sian available online between sessions. I took some of the sessions as half-hour ones.

Did you achieve your original objectives?

Yes. I progressed quickly through the application, interview to offer though the job offer later fell through. I do though now feel I am equipped with the best tools to help find the right one for me

Is there anything unique about Blooms Coaching that you think is worth highlighting?

HR experience of Sian - her knowledge covers so many different topics in this area and she is a very enjoyable person to talk to!

Was there anything you found particularly good or helpful?

Guidance and tips on competency-based interviews as I didn’t have much experience with that in the University field

Would you recommend Blooms Coaching to friends or colleagues?

Absolutely yes!

Any other information to add?

I had such a great experience with Sian! She was fantastic and very helpful from the first exploratory video call. With long-standing experience in the HR field, she was able to advise on different aspects of the career change I was exploring. I often struggled to evaluate the pros and cons of job offers in the private sector, particularly as I was considering leaving a position in the public sector with many benefits.

Sian gave me the right tools, at the right time, to make a decision and to feel confident I was leveraging on my transferable skills. She ran through a training session on professional use of LinkedIn, CV/resume writing tools, cover letter review, and mock interviews. Sian always responded promptly to my e-mails and requests for last-minute meetings. She was always available for extra questions between sessions.

Towards the end of the coaching period, I experienced what I thought was an unfair withdrawal of a job offer by a new potential employer, after 2 months of negotiation. I requested an extra session requested with  Sian and it really gave me new energy - helping me to learn from the experience and consider alternative plans.

Last, but not least, Sian is a very enjoyable person to talk to and makes you feel listened to. I will strongly recommend Sian to everyone (and already mentioned her to friends!)

I found the experience very useful and inspiring. Thank you, Sian!
